Song Writers To Get Paid for Video Views

Song Writers Royalties
Song Writers
Record companies are negotiating royalty pay to song writers and publishers from video advertisements. I know you've watch a music video on YouTube or other video social networks and happen to click on the advertisements at the bottom.  A few days ago, Universal Music Group signed a deal with the National Music Publishers Group to pay royalties to songwriters and publishers.

It's reported that Universal, Sony Music and Abu Dhabi takes in about $150,000,000  a year in advertisement from video sites which up until now, songwriters didn't received a penny. This new agreement will help songwriters earn royalties from video advertisements, ringtones, dual discs, multi- session audio locked in products. Record companies are still negotiating terms which Universal Music Group is parcel to the agreement, Sony has not signed on as of yet. Hopefully songwriters will see a portion of the revenue they work so hard for in the future. Check out the story here:http://music3point0.blogspot.com/2012/06/songwriters-finally-to-be-paid-on.html

The Starbucks Experience

Starbucks decided to focus on its main cash crop; namely coffee. From the taste of the coffee down to the look of the cups, they were looking for something refreshing and consistent.  Starbucks has a well-rounded product line of rich-brewed coffees, Italian style espresso drinks and pastries.

Starbucks refers to its employees as partners in which it invest heavily in the form of brand education, pay and stock options. Starbucks believes that the employee is the face of the business and depends on their quality of service to its customers over traditional advertising.

Every store has the same product line, bathroom scenery and the smell of coffee fills the establishment. The music is always at a comfortable level and you can always count on the noisy bangs and clings from the workers making drinks.

The online portal is a consumer think tank for the company, but it also serves as a brand-building forum where customers write about Starbucks products.  Ideals
are shared, commented on and points are giving to the brightest ideal.

Also, Starbucks donates a percentage of the sale of Ethos water brand to charity roughly 5%. Starbucks also works with farmers to help improve coffee quality and invest in loan programs for coffee-growing communities. Starbucks Shared Planet Network reuses and recycles materials to construct and renovate the stores. They also provides content for their digital network to connect. This helps to increases personal and community relevance. Customers can connect to the Starbucks Digital Network for free.

Brand Asset Management-Jay Z and 50 CENT

Jay Z and 50 Cent Reebok Commercial(2006)

Hip-hop has always been in the driver seat when it comes to the latest trends through lyrics, music and fashion. Combining talented artists with known brands equals more sells from targeted markets. Back then Jay Z and 50 CENT business associate Steve Stoute managed to secure shoe deals with Reebok that was normally reserved for athletes. In a sense, Steve Stoute acts as a brand asset management professional in managing the brands direction.  In a recent interview with Power 105's the Breakfast Club, Stoute discussed a few strategies that he used in advertising.

According to Steve, building on shared value between artists and brands will present a genuine picture with the consumer. Jay and 50-helped assist in shared value because they too like to rock sneakers with their gear. Bridging that gap helped Reebok understand that not everybody wanted to purchase shoes that made them run faster, but rather a shoe that could rock easily with outfits.

What's interesting about Steve was that he placed Shawn Carter and G-unit shoe lines in music stores, that way fans could pre order them before they hit Foot Locker and other shoe chains. This brought the demand to an all time high for Reeboks in which 10,000 pairs were sold within a few hours being release.

The power of hip-hop has brought a whole new revenue stream to the forefront. Before, major record companies weren’t seeing any revenue from branding opportunities, now with 360 deals, labels are pushing hard for brand building, because they get a share of the proceeds and it gives them an incentive to work on the artist behalf.

Independent artist can join in on these opportunities as well in your local communities. For example, let’s say that an artist is a skateboarder and has a local community following. What they can do is seek out sponsorships from skate shops, negotiate a deal that says they will wear sponsored clothing or shoot a video inside or round the store for funding.

Steve Stoute mention it should be a shared value, don’t seek sponsorships from a skate shop if you aren’t a skater, it won’t be authentic. Over all if you are an artist in this new and exciting digital music world there’s opportunity, you have to connect with products you genuinely love and enjoy.
